SUN board agrees Oracle buy out

Been away for a few weeks due to annual leave. Interesting to come back to the news about SUN and Oracle today - press release here. At ERC a few weeks ago the strong rumours were IBM buying SUN, but clearly there were conversations taking place with a number of suitors. Higher Education has a special relationship with SUN and also with Oracle I hope that this continues to everyone's benefits. There were some good things in the SUN pipeline and I felt a real engagement with HE and in particular our students as future customers and collaborators. By all accounts places like Bradford are small beer to either organisation but we benefit from a national and worldwide community which means that we get greater value from the relationships. A good example is the JISC exemplar project with Sunray technologies match-funded by SUN which launches officially later this week incorporating the new employer engaagement escalate centre.
